3rd Look Good …Feel Better’ Workshop coming up

The third and final workshop of the ‘Look Good...Feel Better' Program for active treatment cancer patients is coming up on Tuesday 10th June at Pyrenees House, Ararat.
Hosted by East Grampians Health Service and funded through the Grampians Integrated Cancer Service the program is open to any women in the Central Grampians Region undergoing or about to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment for cancer.
The previous two workshops were facilitated by the ‘Look Good...Feel Better' Program however the forthcoming workshop will be run by Ararat Beauty Professionals who have volunteered their time at each of the three workshops. The businesses involved include Kay Poyner Beauty Therapy, Blue Cameo Mobile Hairdresser, Ararat Healthwise Pharmacy and the Amcal Pharmacy.
The morning workshop will be from 10am to 12 noon and will include morning tea and a light lunch, and is free of charge. An invitation is extended to women cancer patients in the community to come along and participate.
The response to the workshops so far has been most positive and beneficial to the women who have participated, the Volunteers and Oncology Nurses. It is hoped that there may be an opportunity if funding available to continue the workshops beyond this current funded program.
‘Look Good...Feel Better' is a free nation wide community service program dedicated to teaching women cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self image during cancer treatment. Through the ‘Look Good...Feel Better' workshops, women learn how to cope with the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment.
The ‘Look Good...Feel Better' workshop is available to a maximum of 12 participants who will learn about techniques to deal with changes to their skin, loss of hair from brows, lashes and head as well as other appearance related concerns. Participants can only attend one workshop.
Demonstrations on the use of wigs, hats, turbans and scarf tying are also included. The emphasis is on hands on learning, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Each participant receives a take home instruction booklet and a complimentary kit of skincare and cosmetics, which have been donated from the entire Australian cosmetic industry.
The programs aim is to contribute to the health and wellbeing of cancer patients by increasing their self esteem and confidence, and embraces the notion that they are not alone; others do care outside their immediate circle of close friends.
East Grampians Health Service is pleased that they are hosting the ‘Look Good... Feel Better' Program, which has evolved through the close repour which has developed between Oncology Nurses, Community Health Nurses, Support Groups and importantly women cancer patients.
