NURSE TRAINING COMING TO ARARAT
8th March, 2011
The University of Ballarat will deliver a Diploma of Nursing course from the historic Ararat building, Pyrenees House in conjunction with East Grampians Health Service, starting in the second semester this year.
East Grampians Health Service CEO, Mr Nick Bush said, "It is hoped that 20 Diploma students will enrol from the local area to assist with staffing the Health Service once they complete their studies".
Mrs Helen Watt, Director of Clinical Services stated, "This will allow local people to train as nurses locally and then allow these nurses and our current staff to progress to Division 1 status and Post Graduate courses in midwifery, operating room and emergency".
Mrs Watt commented that the future of all services, including obstetrics, requires qualified and skilled nurses to enrich the services offered locally.
University of Ballarat Head of Department, Ms Robyn Dalton, highlighted that the University of Ballarat has a long partnership with East Grampians Health Service and this is a wonderful opportunity to offer more training in the local area of Ararat.
The renovations to Pyrenees House are being funded by the Victorian Government's pledge of $300,000.
