Emergency Drill at Hospital was a Winner

A "Mock" emergency evacuation was recently carried out at East Grampians Health Service in Garden View Court Hostel, where a mock explosion had occurred which resulted in a fire and 35 residents and staff being evacuated.

All residents and staff were safely evacuated to the Patricia Hinchey Day Centre, where many of the elderly residents had to be assisted to the Day Centre. The Hospital emergency response team was activated and they gave assistance with other staff members of Garden View Court.

Mr. Neil Nunn, East Grampians Health Service Emergency and Security Coordinator commented that "The day was a success, all staff acted in a professional and timely manner. This exercise re-enforces the need for these sorts of exercises to be carried out on a regular basis to maintain emergency standards and staff abilities to handle emergency situations."

Acting Director of Clinical Services Mr. Peter Armstrong said "carries out these sorts of exercises to ensure patients, residents and staff are at trained to maintain compliancy with Australian standards and have the ability to facilitate an evacuation at any time."
