LAUNCH OF EAST GRAMPIANS HEALTH SERVICE BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE FOUNDATION
29th October, 2010
The East Grampians Health Service Building For The Future Foundation was launched last night, Thursday 29th October 2010.
The East Grampians Health Service Building For The Future Foundation is a charitable Trust established in 2010 with the purpose of providing funding for special purpose projects and equipment for both the Ararat and Willaura sites of East Grampians Health Service.
The Trust is currently governed by five independent local Trustees who manage the Trust's assets and the distribution of funding for the sole benefit of the Health Service.
The fund allocations take into account the wishes expressed by the East Grampians Health Service Board of Management and with the intention of ensuring that the Health Service remains at the forefront in the provision of healthcare, responding to the needs of our community.
"East Grampians Health Service has been extremely well supported by the Department of Health both from a regional and state level and also the Commonwealth." Chairman of the Trust Bill Jones said. "The Department has enabled the Health Service to attain grants for building development and equipment, resulting in a Health Service which is able to accommodate the needs of our communities. Health is ever changing which provides us with many challenges.
"Willaura has been extremely fortunate in recent times to receive grants in excess of $120,600 which has enabled EGHS to make this site better prepared for bushfire season. Improvements have included a new roof and generator, replacement of all fire mains, fencing, landscaping, external painting and general repairs. Willaura is also extremely well supported by a tremendous community and Auxiliary."
The Ararat Hospital has been well supported by not only the various levels of the Department of Health but also through our extremely dedicated Auxiliaries and our incredible partner, the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, Ararat Branch."
Mr Jones said funding and grants for the Ararat Hospital have seen the building of a new facility, purchase of state of the art equipment and refurbishment of our Community Centre, in all, a Health Service which the Willaura and Ararat communities can be proud of.
"The original 1930's Ararat Hospital building is in desperate need of external work, which I am sure has not gone unnoticed by the community members who visit this site, Mr Jones said.
"EGHS has been fortunate over recent years to attract significant funding for new building works, equipment and internal refurbishments, however funding for external renovation has been more difficult to attract which has resulted in this building not meeting the high standard EGHS has become known for. This winter's heavy rainfall highlighted an immediate need for urgent work to be undertaken when considerable internal damage was caused by the leaking roof and spouting."
Mr Jones said the EGHS Building For The Future Foundation has identified the restoration of the external fabric of this 1930's building as an ideal project to launch the Foundation. The restoration works will include fascia replacement, storm water pipe and guttering replacement, cleaning of terracotta roof tiles and general painting of the exterior of the building. Works will commence in the first half of 2011, before our next wet winter.
The Health Service would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Foundation for all their endeavours as well as its benefactors and looks forward to continuing to respond to the needs of our community and to protect the assets we are extremely proud to have," Mr Jones said.
Donations or bequests in your will assists in ensuring that the Foundation can provide a lasting legacy to the communities and residents of Ararat and surrounding districts.
