‘Inspired by Movement’ Photography Exhibition

8th October, 2009

East Grampians Health Service Physiotherapy Department Staff, Clients together with students from Ararat College have finally completed a special photography project called ‘Inspired by Movement'.  The exhibition of works were officially opened by Mr Christian Carthew of AME Systems on Wednesday 6th October at a special get together in the Physiotherapy Department.

AME Systems and Ararat College have been involved with the health service in a number of ‘art and health' projects since 2004 and ‘Inspired by Movement' has further strengthened the strong partnership of the three organisations.

The project has been ongoing over the past twelve months with students regularly visiting the Physiotherapy Department and working enthusiastically under the guidance of well known local photographer and teacher Wayne Suffield. This diligence has resulted in a series of ‘movement photography' being developed.  This now will feature in the Physiotherapy Department to inspire clients to progress from an injury, and through rehabilitation to gain as much independence as possible so they can return to their lifestyle and role in the community.

Ararat College students involved included Lindsay Woods, Ashlee Bell, Perri Fiscalini, Brittany Young, Caitlyn Treacy and Kellie Warrior and over the time of the project they have taken well over 3,000 images, of which through a selection process seventeen were selected to complete the series for the permanent exhibition.

In presenting Certificates of Appreciation to the students involved EGHS Board Chairman Graeme Foster praised the enthusiasm of the students and the high standard of the photography presented.  He also thanked the facilitator, participants and the Physiotherapy Staff for initiating the idea of such a project.

Thanks were also expressed to the Ararat College for again partnering the health service and to AME Systems for their commitment of support to the health service. In addition our thanks go to Central Grampians LLEN (Ararat Office) for accessing funding through the ‘Adopt A School' Program - Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, and to the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), Australia Post and the Ararat Branch as part of the ‘Stretching the Envelope' Program for making this project possible.
