Colourful Hats and Attire out for Oaks Day
23rd November, 2010
There was a good turnout for this year's Oaks Day Luncheon held at Lowe Street in the hospital grounds on Thursday the 4th of November. It was a day to remember as the Oaks Day brought all the out colorful hats and attire for the day.
EGHS Community Liaison Officer Mr Danny Drake commented that "it was a very successful day, even the though the weather was a bit overcast, we still had plenty of loyal supporters to this annual event who came out to enjoy the day's proceedings. It's always nice to see the community get behind this event once again for the Lowe Street Auxiliary, no matter what the weather might be doing."
Lowe Street Auxiliary President Mrs Jana Millear said" it was very pleasing event and I would like to thank the Auxiliary members who organised the sponsors and people to come."
Local identities such as Terry Weeks and David Lowing were running the Oaks Day sweeps, keeping all the punters busy eagerly watching each race. The Mayor Gwenda Allgood drew the Oaks Day's prize for Lady of the day which she presented to Joan Powell.
The $1,700 raised from this event was a great effort and will go towards furnishing a family room for the residents and their families, to enjoy spending time with their families in a more comfortable relaxing area.
