Murray to Moyne’s CRANKS & Defibrillators are on the move…..
25th February, 2009
The annual Murray to Moyne Cycling Relay is with us again with East Grampians Health Service's two teams, the CRANKS and Defibrillator already into full training, and about to commence their fundraising.
This year's event will be on 4th & 5th April with the two teams participating in the grueling challenge to ride some 525 kms from Swan Hill to Port Fairy.
The two teams of 18 riders and 5 support team members include a number of staff from the health service and all have made a real obligation to this event with much personal time, effort and expense going into the preparation. In addition all are committed to canvassing around Ararat and District for donations in addition to helping out at their three smaller fundraising events.
Teams Coordinators this year will be Shaun Blackie and Trish Connarty together with riders Graeme Foster, David Holcombe, Les Connarty, Kregan Connarty, Brad Kerr, Ian Hastwell, Drew Gray, Wayne Klauss, Alan Young, Charlie Reid, Kerry Sturmfels, Nickie Blackie, Sharon Spalding, Wendy Bahl, Kirby James and Leonie MacDonald. The Support Team will include Nicole Leggett, Graham Bull, Les Ralph, Owen Leggett and Stuart Kerr.
This year's fundraising will go towards the purchase of new updated Syringe Drivers across a number of areas of the health service, including Acute, Aged Care, District Nursing and Palliative Care. Syringe Drivers are small, portable battery driven infusion pumps used to give pain and nausea relief over a period of time.
The Teams are hoping to raise up to $15,000 to cover all areas requiring this new equipment.
Already Christians Buses have come on board and offered the loan of a commuter bus, while KFC - Ararat and the Ararat Advertiser have lead the way as early major sponsors.
With the recent tragic Victorian Bushfires and being very much aware of the Bushfire Appeals the teams are taking a quieter approach to their our annual fundraiser and still hope the community will continue with their generosity.
Like previous years major sponsors will be recognized and be prominently displayed on the support trailer signage during the relay and will be acknowledged in the media following the event.
A number of smaller fundraising activities are being planned by the teams in March including a Film Night (Thursday 5th March), Social Bowls (Friday 13th March) and Trivia Night (Friday 27th March). Major sponsors will be acknowledged at these functions.
Any donations towards Murray to Moyne 2009 are very much appreciated, with donations of $2 and over being tax deductible. These can be sent to Dianne Radford at East Grampians Health Service (PO Box 155) Ararat.
