Willaura Hospital gets a new Low-Low Bed

1st January, 2008

A recent donation from the Willaura Hospital Auxiliary of $2950 together with a donation of $1,000 from the Wills family on behalf of the late Mr John Mills, has allowed for a new Low - Low bed to be installed at the Willaura Hospital.

The Low - Low bed allows for the bed to be lowered to a safe height for residents that have the potential to fall out of bed. It also is used to help residents sitting up as the head of the bed can be electrically lifted and the foot of the bed can be lowered or placed on an angle if required.

In 1995 Willaura and District Hospital merged with Ararat and District Hospital and John Pickford House and so East Grampians Health Service was established.

Today, Willaura Health Care offers a range of services including hospital, district nursing and palliative care together with residential and aged care at the Nursing Home and Parklands House Hostel. The Day Centre provides a valuable service to the Willaura community operating 3 days per week.

The Willaura Hospital Auxiliary is extremely active in their support to Willaura Health Care, and members continually have a presence with volunteering and fundraising which is an added benefit to the patients, residents, day centre participants and staff.

The recent successful Willaura Market held in the hospital grounds in March is a wonderful example of the commitment of the Auxiliary members to the local health service and certainly demonstrates that Willaura is a vibrant and committed community.

At a recent presentation East Grampians Health Service Board President Graeme Foster said: “East Grampians Health Service is very grateful to the Auxiliary and the Wills family for their most generous donations which has enabled us to purchase this much needed low - low bed for the Willaura Hospital. We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing wonderful support from the Willaura and district community to the health service generally.
