Heartbeat Group enables Heart- health checks
2nd May, 2008
EGHS Community Centre has received five new Automatic Blood Pressure Machines which have been made possible through the generosity of the Ararat and District Heartbeat Club.
The machines will be used to measure blood pressures and monitor pulses for many of the Centres programs including Cardiac Rehabilitation and Healthy Hearts Programs/Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Tai Chi Classes and exercise maintenance groups. The machines are specifically designed for individual testing and will assist staff at community events and activities.
The Heartbeat Group's donation has been largely supported by the annual Heartbeat Bowls Day which was recently held in March at the Ararat Bowling Club. The bowls day was an outstanding success and proceeds of the day enabled the group to purchase the equipment for the health service. The Ararat Bowling Club has been a great supporter to the group and health service for many years.
This week 5 - 9th May is Heartweek with the message for 2008 being "Active Families - Healthy Lives" which is a reminder to community that heart disease affects two out of three Australian families. Being active provides a range of health benefits such as strengthens heart muscle, reduces fatigue, improves mood, blood cholesterol and blood pressure; promotes restful sleep and improves posture appearance and self image.
During Heartweek EGHS Community Centre Staff will be available in Ararat and Willaura to check blood pressures and provide information about ways to enhance active living and heart health.
At East Grampians Health Service the catering staff will be putting in an extra effort to provide some special healthy menu options for the week.
If you would like any additional information on Heartweek or wish to make an appointment for a free Blood Pressure Check please contact the EGHS Community Centre Tel: 5352 9327.
