Fun Night out at WWW Dinner
18th September, 2008
Over 200 women from across the region enjoyed a relaxed and fun night out at for the annual WWW. Women, Wisdom & Wellbeing Dinner held recently at the Ararat Performing Arts Centre.
In addition over 20 young women from Ararat Community College, Marian College and Beaufort Secondary College had the privilege of attending through the generous sponsorship of State and Federal MP's, Ararat Rural City together with businesses and organisation from Ararat and district. Major sponsor of the students attending was the ‘Brekkie on the Run' Leadership Program for women funded by Regional Development Victoria.
‘Silver, Swish & Sassy' the theme chosen by the organisers, East Grampians Health Service Auxiliary for the event certainly enticed women to get into the mood of the occasion with many putting silver to the taste of attire.
Guest speaker Sue Stanley gave an interesting insight to her journey in sport from aerobics to water skiing as a demonstration sport at the Seoul 1988 Olympics. Her dedication to achieving her goals in her chosen sports has been well documented however on the night she also spoke about the challenges along the way. Importantly over more recent years she has been dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people she works for and with.
A highlight of her presentation was when she invited all women present to their feet and over 200 women as a group did their aerobic exercise for the night which was a scene to appreciate. Much interest was shown when Sue invited four male waiters to join her in an aerobic routine and there was much loud applause as they completed the routine with Sue showing incredible skills for all to see.
Sue also presented her new casual range of clothing with the assistance of a number of the sponsored students, and encouraged women to fill in a specially prepared ‘Good Health....Master it!' survey which over 50% of those in attendance took the opportunity to fill out. This survey's outcome, which is being initiated by the Federal Government Department of Health and Ageing, will provide advice on health and fitness in order to achieve long term health benefits.
The presentation of the 3rd Annual Careers Encouragement Award was this year given to Kylie Bruty from Beaufort Secondary College. The topic for applications was ‘the dream job you would love to get' and saw a very high standard of entries submitted.
In presenting the award EGHS Auxiliary President Liz de Fegely complimented all students on their entries and coming to the Dinner. The judges in making their decision were particularly impressed with Kylie's entry as she has chosen a navy career, which is traditionally for males.
This was the seventh year this highly successful get together of women was held and it is expected over $7000 will have been raised and this will be donated to the health service for the purchase of Air Pressure Beds for the Inpatient Unit.
