Palliative Care Receives A Welcome Donation
8th September, 2008
This welcome donation came about from a recent conference of the Wimmera Mallee District and will be put towards a sheepskin rug and elbow and heel protectors that will be made available to patients through the Palliative Care Service.
The Ararat Manchester Unity Friendly Society has been going in Ararat for over 50 years and is part of the Wimmera Mallee District. Though the Ararat Lodge is small in membership they still meet socially the last Monday of each month. Community members are always welcome and the aim is to keep this small group alive for years to come. Local contacts of the organisation are Allan Grant and Sonia Green who made the presentation.
In accepting the donation Central Grampians Palliative Care's Garry Tierney said community donations like presented by the Ararat Manchester Unity Friendly Society are very much appreciated and are always most welcome. They certainly assist in providing not only vital equipment but also the extras like the sheepskins which make a difference for patients, particularly out in their own homes in the community.
Central Grampians Palliative Care is a community based palliative care service offering health care and emotional support to patients and their carers living with life threatening illnesses and the focus is to offer a service that will enhance a person's dignity and independence. The service also loans a wide variety of equipment and aids to enable independence to be maintained for as long as possible and home nursing care easier.
The service is offered 5 days per week, excluding weekends and public holidays, between the hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Referrals can be made by contacting the Central Grampians Palliative Care on 5352 9465 or 0427 629465, or by contacting the District Nursing Service near your area of residence
