Inspired by Movement’ Photography Project

12th November, 2008

East Grampians Health Service has embraced ‘art and health' as an important aspect of good health and wellbeing.

Since 2004, patients, residents, staff, volunteers and visitors have had the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate artworks that today feature throughout the health service. These works have been created by a special partnership with our community that includes students from both our local Secondary Colleges and Primary Schools.

Again we are embarking on another unique project - " Inspired by Movement" which will include our Physiotherapy Department Staff, Rehabilitation Clients, Photography Students from Ararat College with well known local photographer, Wayne Suffield facilitating the project.

The Project has been made possible by Central Grampians LLEN who enthusiastically accessed funding assistance from the ‘Adopt a School' Program through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) - Australia Post as part of the "Stretching the Envelope" Program and also our community partner Mr Peter Carthew OAM and AME Systems who continue their commitment to ‘art and health' at East Grampians Health Service.

‘Inspired by Movement' has come about through the initiative of Physiotherapy staff who are keen to create a working space that enhances mobility and quality of life not only by delivering the most suitable treatment for an injury or condition but also through inspiring visuals and the chosen media is to create a collection of ‘movement photography' that will inspire patients to gain as much movement and physical independence as possible so they can resume their normal job or lifestyle. When completed the series of mounted and framed photographes will hang proudly in the Physiotherapy Department.

Recently, a morning tea was held in the Physiotherapy Department to announce the project with participants, sponsors and funding body representative in attendance including Mr Michael Watson from Australia Post - Ararat together with Ms Belinda Healy and Mrs Francesca Suffield from Central Grampians LLEN.
