The John McNally Emergency Helicopter

Landing Pad was commissioned by a Police Air Wing helicopter on October 29th 2006. The Pilot declared the pad "sensational.... one of the best in Australia and setting the standard for future helipad installation".

These unsolicited comments were particularly satisfying to know that the community has an emergency landing pad which is world-class.

The completion of the John McNally Emergency Helicopter Landing Pad was another milestone for EGHS. Preliminary plans for the building of a helipad in conjunction with the new hospital development were adopted in 2002, with the location being adjacent to Basham Street established as part of the EGHS Master-plan. The John McNally Emergency Helicopter Landing Pad evolved through a community partnership, which contributed $150,000 including $50,000 from the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, $47,000 from the Ararat Branch of the Foundation together with $53,000 from the Ararat Rural City on behalf of the residents of Ararat and District. A further donation of $5,000 from Powercor assisted in covering the overall cost of the project.
