Perioperative

Peri-operative

The Peri-operative Unit continues to offer a range of procedures with visiting specialist Surgeons offering services such as General, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology and Dental. A 24 hour 'on call' service is offered with every second weekend shared with Stawell and this calls for 3 qualified Peri-operative Nurses to be available to attend any emergencies which may arise. In the past year the unit has attended 40 emergency call outs.

A busy Day Procedure Unit has accommodated over 1,500 patients and performed 2,500 procedures. Of these, 300 major procedures were performed thereby reducing the need for locals to travel out of the area.

The Perioperative Unit includes two Operating Rooms, a Day Procedures Unit (6 Bay), Central Sterile Supply Department, Recovery Room (4 Bay) & a 2/3-Chair Renal Dialysis Suite.

The unit is supported with an Anaesthetic Room, Preparation Room, Scrub and Storage areas. All the staff rotate through Anaesthetics, scrub duties, scouting and recovery. As all our staff participate in the On-Call provision, they need to be multi-skilled. In the rural setting, our Registered Nurses act as theAssistant to the Surgeon.
