Pyrenees House

Pyrenees House is an architectural, historical building of significance built in 1886 as a general hospital to replace its 1860 predecessor which was razed to the ground after being condemned.

Designed in the Queen Anne style, the building has a prominent tower and elaborate external detailing.  Exterior details of note are the elaborate gables with their render festoons and entrance tower with classic detailing. The interior includes individual rooms with high ceilings, elaborate fireplaces plus two larger areas which were nursing wards.

Since 1901 the building was registered as a training school for nurses and in 1937 was converted to a Nurses’ Home.  Sometime later in 1953 it was again converted, this time to a 27 bed geriatric ward, with a further 9 beds added in 1959 and it remained for this purpose until 1986. Still retaining its grandeur today, this historic building is open to the general public as a function and conference facility.

The two main rooms are ideal for large groups of up to 100 people, with conference equipment provided.  Smaller meeting rooms are also offered. Full catering by qualified chefs is available with a variety of menu styles.
